I successfully applied for an apprenticeship at Aquaterra Energy after completing my Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Operations and Maintenance at Lowestoft College. My interest in the company was sparked following a presentation that was given at the college by the Operations Manager, which gave me the opportunity to speak to the Aquaterra apprentices. I joined the company in 2014, and during my first year, I completed a Level 2 NVQ in Engineering Maintenance. The second year I completed a Level 3 work-based NVQ in Mechanical Maintenance Engineering. Aquaterra Energy also approved my further study to obtain a Foundation Degree in Operations Engineering. Alongside my studies, I worked as a workshop technician at Aquaterra’s Operations Base, where we service and maintain offshore equipment. Aquaterra facilitated my offshore survival training and I have had the opportunity for trips in the UK, Norwegian & Dutch sectors of the North Sea as well as Australia & Egypt. In 2017 Aquaterra nominated me for the EEEGR Trade Apprentice of the year award. With their support, I went to Dunston Hall for the finals and made a presentation to a large audience and judges from the energy industry. I was proud and delighted to win. Since completing my foundation degree, I have progressed to become a full-time offshore service technician. I am continuing to learn whether its working alone or with the experienced team. Aquaterra is an excellent employer. I enjoy the social and sporting activities and feel valued and rewarded in my work. I am looking forward to gaining more experience and furthering my career with the company.
