Meet the Team
Mark Boyd - Chairman
Aquaterra Energy was established in July 2005 - the third engineering company that Mark has founded throughout his impressive offshore career.
Mark is a veteran of the oil and gas industry with 30 years of experience in the field. His career began with Amoco in 1979, working with the petroleum and drilling groups.
After working as a drilling consultant for several years, he founded Team Energy in 1987, followed by UWG in 1989 and has worked in managerial and technical consultancy roles worldwide.
George Morrison - Managing Director
George started as a Project Manager when Aquaterra Energy was established and there were just four team members. By June 2006, the company was quickly expanding and he became the Managing Director.
George grew up in Aberdeen, a predominantly engineering area, which fuelled his interest in the industry. He then went on to study a BSc in Civil and Structural Engineering at Aberdeen University.
He started his career in the offshore industry in 1993 and relocated to East Anglia to pursue his ambitions.
James Larnder - Director
James has been with Aquaterra Energy since their inception in July 2005.
He was one of the four-strong team that established Aquaterra Energy as the dynamic offshore engineering company that it is today and continues to drive the company forward on the board of directors.
He has worked in the offshore industry for eight years since graduating with a Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering from Nottingham University. During this time he has assumed a variety of challenging roles and been involved in projects worldwide.
Dave Rowson - Director
Dave joined Aquaterra Energy in early 2006, bringing with him a wealth of engineering knowledge and experience from more than 25 years in the oil and gas industry.
Dave, a Chartered Civil Engineer, is responsible for the Platforms and Special Projects team. Work includes development of the Sea Swift platform, brownfield modifications projects and pipeline/riser projects.
After graduating with a degree in Civil & Structural Engineering from Sheffield University, Dave worked on civil engineering construction projects before moving into the oil and gas industry. He has since worked in both senior engineering and project management roles.
Mark Buchan - Director
Mark has worked at Aquaterra Energy since the beginning of 2006. He has tackled a variety of challenging roles in the offshore petrochemical industry since 1981.
Mark completed a HNC in Mechanical Engineering before moving into the oil and gas industry. He has worked on projects based in the Canadian Arctic, offshore West Africa, the Caspian Sea and North Sea.
On the board of directors, Mark is responsible for Aquaterra Energy’s African operations, in particular those located in Angola. He manages projects from their initial inception through to completion; ensuring the client’s requirements are met through the service and products provided.
Michael Fagg - Finance Director
Michael joined Aquaterra Energy in late 2008 and is applying his impressive financial skills to a rapidly expanding company.
Michael completed a BTech National Diploma in Business and Finance before taking his first step into the finance sector as a trainee Accountant. After qualifying as a certified accountant he worked as a Financial Controller and most recently a Divisional Finance Director.
With nearly twenty years gained in the finance sector and experience in the offshore industry, Michael is excited to be working closely with the accounts department and board of directors.
Gary Hackett - V.P. International Business Development
Gary was one of the four original team members that founded Aquaterra Energy in 2005.
Reporting directly to the board of directors, he is responsible for International Business Development and set up a US base in Lafayette, Louisiana in May 2009. Gary is responsible for high level sales and project management.
He has had a long and varied career in the engineering industry; previously working in the Royal Air Force as an aircraft engineer for 11 years before moving into the oil and gas field. During his time in the offshore industry, Gary has managed projects worldwide and has specialised in North America operations where prior to joining Aquaterra he was Regional Manager based in Houston, Texas.
Robert Biggs - Engineering Design Manager
Robert joined Aquaterra Energy as part of the initial team in November 2005.
He is responsible for the management of Aquaterra’s Design department and design engineering projects. He leads a focused team of experienced and developing engineers and a department which has seen rapid growth since the company first established.
He has spent his entire working career developing as a design engineer and become a highly competent Chartered Engineer with over 20 years experience in the Offshore Industry. Robert has been responsible for both innovative and patented engineering projects ranging from the design and installation of diving and R.O.V. systems, subsea structures, well service and abandonment tooling and our own Sea Swift structures.
John Dyble - Operations Manager
John has worked at Aquaterra Energy since early 2007. His focus and commitment to operations, has gone a long way to helping Aquaterra become a respected supplier of offshore engineering to the oil and gas industry.
His working career commenced when he completed an Engineering Apprenticeship which allowed him to pursue a career in the oil and gas industry.
John has worked within the oil and gas industry since 1985. In this time he has worked for several different drilling and service companies, covering a variety of roles and responsibilities, including Operations Management.
Doug Lawrie - QHSE Manager
Doug has worked at Aquaterra Energy since 2005 and has specialised in QHSE in the offshore industry since 1996.
Doug is responsible for working closely with senior management to achieve and maintain excellence in quality, health, safety and environmental issues. His main focus is providing Quality and HSE resource and advice to managers and individual projects, developing management systems and maintaining certification such as ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
After completing a five year Engineering Apprenticeship and gaining relevant technical qualifications, Doug then gained an MSc in Strategic Quality Management and NEBOSH Diploma before embarking on a career in the oil and gas industry, and has become one of the country’s first Chartered Quality Professionals.
John Rainbow - IT Manager
John joined Aquaterra Energy as IT Manager in August 2008.
He started his career in 1989 as an IT support analyst and through gaining accreditation in networking moved through support and project management roles into the role of IT Manager which he has held for the last 8 years. John has worked in the offshore industry since 1996 which has given him a good understanding of the oil and gas field.
John is responsible for IT, Telecoms and administration, as well as being a member of the management team. His role also encompasses the project management of new building projects and finding and maintaining premises for a rapidly expanding company.
Andy McDowell - Sales & Marketing Manager
Andy joined Aquaterra in July 2009 as Sales & Marketing Manager.
He is responsible for managing sales on an international scale, introducing Aquaterra’s products and services to potential and existing clients whilst also administering the marketing activities with his knowledge and experience of the industry.
Andy’s first insight into the offshore industry came when he completed an Apprenticeship as a fitter and turner in a shipyard; he then moved into the oil and gas field where he has worked since 1992. Andy has taken on many managerial roles throughout his career including managing coil tubing operations and personnel on a worldwide scale.
Kathryn Griffiths - HR Manager
Kathryn joined Aquaterra Energy in early 2006 as a Technical Assistant. She was responsible for "anything that wasn't engineering" - Admin, Facilities, Human Resources, IT and Sales & Marketing.
As Aquaterra Energy has rapidly grown, Kathryn's role has become more specialised to focus on the company and staff requirements.
Kathryn has worked in the offshore industry for five years. She began her career in the oil and gas field as a Technical Assistant, progressing to PA and Facilities Manager before joining Aquaterra Energy.
