Big success for charity

Aquaterra’s charity committee were invited to visit the Big C Centre and the UEA Biomedical Research Centre in Norwich to see the work being carried out as a direct result of the Big C's fundraising, which local companies like Aquaterra have supported.

The Big C Family Cancer Information and Support Centre, which is based within the grounds of the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, opened in 2006 and is designed to provide anyone affected by cancer with information and support. The Centre is run by a team of health professionals and volunteers, experienced in the needs of cancer patients, their families and friends.

The Centre provides a warm, friendly and relaxed environment where people can use the centre as they choose. With a wide range of facilities such as counselling, relaxation groups and complimentary therapy, the centre offers a great deal of support. The Centre also houses a wide range of library stocks to give people all the information they need to reduce anxiety levels and to guide them through their treatment.

The Biomedical Research Centre at the UEA is internationally renowned for its cancer research. Aquaterra were led on a tour of the Research Centre by Professor Dylan Edwards, the Head of School. The tour provided a real insight into the cancer research that is conducted and how the Big C has helped to fund this. The Centre has over 100 research scientists undertaking pioneering work.

Aquaterra presented Sharon Hulbert, Big C’s PR & Corporate Fundraising Relations Manager with a cheque for £5,000 to help them to continue their care, support and research into 2010.
