Charity rally waves the chequered flag
Aquaterra Energy’s adventurous engineer Nick Stringer has completed his much anticipated Scumball 3000 Rally, raising an impressive £1,200 for the charity Whizz-Kidz.
The Scumball 3000 Rally is an annual four-day charity drive across Europe in unusual cars costing no more than £500. Nick and his friends - team ‘Rust Junkys’ managed to find a real gem, a classic Jaguar and sponsored by Aquaterra Energy initially raised £500 to enter the rally.
Nick and his friends arrived at Essex Arena Raceway on April 17th to sign up for the exhilarating rally and kick-started the fun with a launch party. Geared up, they jumped on the ferry at Dover bright and early the next morning, heading to the start line at Calais where they were presented with an envelope revealing the name of the first destination – Nevers in the middle of France. Day by day, providing they reached each destination, they would find out where they were on route to next.
The second day went (mostly) without a hitch. They stayed on track but arrived in Nevers to heavy rain which spelt a wet night camping. Day three proved to be eventful – deciding to take a cross country route to the next revealed destination – Nurburgring (Nordschleife) – they got lost and on arrival were escorted out of Germany and back to France by police who didn’t like the look of the fundraisers! They finally made it back to Germany and to camp in thick fog, a lot later than hoped. The final day and the destination was Amsterdam, closing off the rally at the River Estuary, tired but ready for the closing party.
After four long but fun-filled days they headed back home, surprisingly the Jaguar holding up till the end.
Scumball 3000 looks set to raise a total of £55,000 for Whizz-Kidz and team ‘Rust Junkys’ helped to make that possible and had a fantastic time in the process!
